Husband of Sophie Guttmann (née Schifre Schenker), brother-in-law of Heinrich Schenker, a medical doctor.

Born in Suczawa (Bukovina, district Sereth) on November 10, 1869, his parents being Osias Hersch and Nessy Guttmann, nothing is otherwise known about his life prior to his marriage to Sophie Guttmann on January 6, 1898 at the synagogue in Fünfhaus, in the 15th district of Vienna. The marriage certificate gives Salo's occupation as "Arzt" (medical doctor). A Salomon Guttmann is listed as "Gemeindearzt" (community doctor) in Bossancze (Bosancea, in the Suczawa district of Bukovina) in 1907 (Bukovina-Medical). During September 1914, Schenker and Moriz Violin tried hard to find a position for him in one of the Vienna hospitals, petitioning senior doctors on his behalf (OJ 1/16, pp. 716–730). Schenker also sought the assistance of Sofie Deutsch for him (ibid, p. 721), while Mrs. Pairamall offered food to the two sons, Hans and Julian, through her food relief program (ibid, p. 728). By 1934, he is reported to have severely poor eyesight (A/289).

For further information on the Guttmann family, see Guttmann family.

No correspondence between Salo Guttmann and the Schenkers is known to survive.
