Richard Specht

Austrian writer about music and music critic.
Specht studied piano with Ignaz Brüll and composition with Zemlinsky and Schreker. In 1909, he founded the journal Der Merker , the chief editor of which he remained until 1919; he was music critic of the Viennese daily Die Zeit 1904-08, wrote for Die Musik 1908-15, and for the Illustrirte Wiener Extrablatt 1912-20. He wrote biographies of several composers, and many introductions to operas and orchestral works.
No correspondence between Specht and Schenker is known to survive.
