Lieber Prof. v. Cube ! 1

Many thanks for your lovely letter of September 7= OJ 9/34, [38], which makes me eager about the further content [of your work]. I am glad that you are surviving! 2 We have been back for a few days and find agreeably promising things, which nevertheless point to the future. Dr Jonas has just written a lengthy piece about me, which is published as the two leading articles of P. Schneers's[?] Berliner allgemeine Musikzeitung (Nos. 36-37); 3 his book will appear soon. Oppel and his pupils continue to work for the cause; Vrieslander is bringing out something new, 4 etc.

{recto} I am at the point of finishing Free Composition and entering discussions with the publisher.

With best greetings from the two of us.
Yours,

Footnotes

1 Writing of this postcard is recorded in Schenker's diary at OJ 4/6, p. 3866, September 16, 1933: "An v. Cube (K.): über den Aufsatz von Jonas." ("To von Cube (postcard): about the article by Jonas.").

2 In his previous letter, Cube told his teacher of a couple of modest teaching opportunities that he had recently taken up.

3 These articles by Jonas are not found in Schenker's scrapbook (OC 2). But the years 1932–34 were a period in which Jonas was promoting Schenker's work: in addition to the book mentioned here, Das Wesen des musikalischen Kunstwerks (Vienna: Saturn-Verlag, 1934), there is a 1932 review of Das Meisterwerk in der Musik, vol. 3 and a 1933 article on the Photogrammarchiv (both pasted onto p. 88 of the scrapbook).

4 Apart from a review of Das Meisterwerk in der Musik, preserved in Schenker's scrapbook (OC 2/p.87), Vrieslander had recently published two volumes of songs and a book of ländler for piano.
