Ich möchte Ihnen alleraufrichtigst für das schöne Brahmsbild danken und bitte seien Sie mir nicht böse, daß ich erst so spät gekommen bin, da ich während des einen Monats, wo ich wieder in Wien bin, mit Immatrikulation, Colloquien, Referaten und meinen Privatstunden wirklich sehr überhäuft war;

Aber legen Sir mir dies bitte nicht als einen Mangel an Hochachtung aus.

Dear Mrs Schenker' 1

I should like to thank you most sincerely for the lovely Brahms picture. Please do not be angry with me for not having got round to this until so late. [This is] because in the space of the one month that I have been back in Vienna I have been up to my neck in matriculation, colloquia, lectures and my private lessons.

But please do not interpret this as a lack of respect on my part.


With cordial thanks once again,
and warm greetings.

Footnotes

1 Jeanette Schenker was at the Hasenauerstraße address only briefly, in (possibly September,) October and November 1935. By November 28, she had moved to Cottagegasse 21 in Vienna XVIII, the address that she kept for approximately a year (for six months of which she traveled to Chile and back).
