Village (now town) 12 miles (20 km) due west of Vienna, midway between between Purkersdorf and Rekarwinkel, in the Vienna Woods.

The train line to Sankt Pölten ran from the Westbahnhof alongside the Wien River through Hadersdorf, Purkersdorf, Pressbaum, Rekarwinkel, and Eichgraben, with popular walks and spectacular countryside to the north and south of the route.

In 1881, Brahms spent the summer in the nearby village of Brenntenmais, south of Pressbaum and completed his Nänie, Op. 82 and Piano Concerto No. 2, Op. 83.

Pressbaum and Schenker

Pressbaum was a favorite place of Schenker's during the 1900s for weekend hikes. Nearby places that he visited included Lawies on the opposite (north = left) bank of the Wien River, and Tullnerbach and Gablitz to the northeast.
