Footnotes

1 Schenker's diary for Saturday June 5 records: "Breisach does not turn up to his lesson, but without cancelling. I sense this to be a reply to my demand for the 20 Kronen that are still outstanding." — Previously the diary entry for April 19 records: "Breisach’s father gets in touch with me to discuss matters concerning his son; at the same time a postcard from the young Breisach arrives from Marburg, announcing his return, thus to a certain extent explaining the purpose of the father’s visit. — Mr. Breisach is requested to come on Wednesday [April 21]"; and the entry for April 21 records: "In the morning, young Breisach appears and announces the resumption of lessons; in the afternoon his father, overtaken by his son to some extent. To my surprise, he asks me for a third weekly lesson for his son."
