[UE receipt:]

⇧ Sehr geehrter Herr Direktor!
Ich beeile mich, hiemit den Erhalt der Korrektur zu bestätigen, u. zugleich bestens zu
danken.
1
Was noch möglich ist, wird geschehen. Schade, daß der Druck der Erläuterungen
2
so viel Fehler aufweist: entweder hat der Setzer meine
Schrift schlecht lesen können oder das Tempo war ihm zu
rasch.
Mit ausg. Hochachtung

⇧ Dear Director,
I hasten to acknowledge herewith receipt of the proofs, and at the same time to offer
my best thanks.
1
Whatever still is possible will be done. It is a pity that the printing of the
elucidations
2
evinces so many errors:
either the typesetter had difficulty reading my handwriting, or the pace was too fast for
him.
With kind regards,

Footnotes
1 This is in response to
OC 52/51, June 2, 1910 (which
must surely have exasperated Schenker after the careful scheduling of proof-correcting
that he had proposed several times in recent months), and the proofs ‒ of the
Chromatic Fantasy &
Fugue
‒ delivered by hand. Schenker has taken time to examine the
proofs before acknowledging receipt.
2 i.e. the contents of the "Einführung"
("Introduction").
