Fl! 1

Floriz! 1

Yesterday it was announced that the Assyrian color-sergeant 2 is taking his company to Spain, Portugal, and South America etc. I take it that the "gentlemen" will not return (see Kreisler, etc.): accordingly, please would you ask e.g. Buxbaum whether his apartment will be free. We hope to get out next Sunday. 3 Tomorrow and the next day I must get down to working through the backlog for the whole month (in reviews, etc.) and put it in order!

Footnotes

1 Writing of this postcard is recorded in Schenker's diary at OJ 3/1, p. 2212, January 31, 1920: "An Fl. ("To Floriz (postcard): regarding the apartment of Rosé and companions, who, it is said, are planning to remain abroad.").

2 "assyrische Feldwebel ": probably a barbed comment on Arnold Rosé's origin, as a Jew from Jassy on the eastern fringe of the Austrian empire (now Romania). Cf. OJ 15/16, [45], July 20, 1921 " zu Ihrem assyrischen Freunde Rosé." "mit Compagnie" may refer to the other members of of the Rosé String Quartet.

3 i.e. to visit the Violins in Schönbrunn.
