1 These two receipts record the sending of a complimentary copy of Oswald Jonas's book Das Wesen des musikalischen Kunstwerks and the [non-extant] final copy of the accompanying letter to Alphons von Rothschild a draft of which exists as OJ 5/34, [2]. The two mailings are recorded in Schenker's diary at OJ 4/7, p. 3932, August 7, 1934: "Lie-Liechen verpackt das Jonas-Buch für Rotschild. [...] Nach der Jause Postsendung an Rotschild, recomm." ("Lie-Liechen packs the book by Jonas for Rothschild. [...] After teatime, package sent to Rothschild by registered mail."). Susequently, p. 3935 records, August 17: "Von Rotschild kommt das Jonas-Buch zurück – eine Antwort auf den Brief fehlt." ("From Rothschild, the book by Jonas is returned – there is no reply to my letter.").
