Nun aber sah er, dass dazu keine Zeit mehr sei, und dass er auf eine spätere Auflage sich und uns verströsten müsse. I spoke on the telphone again with Dr. Kalmus, for the first time since he had received the corrections to the Symphony in B minor. ³ He told me that he looked at the facsimile of the manuscript only last week and determined that many of corrections [made by us] had parallels elsewhere, which ⇧ would have ⇧ required the same correction. I had already remarked that we had not checked everything, that such a revised edition would require a special agreement with you. But then he realized that there was no longer any time for that, and that he would have to console himself – and us – with a later print-run. It was also no longer possible to show us a set of proofs [cued from lower margin:] ⇧ of the changes already made[end cue] ⇧ as the symphony had already been in press the previous week. I cannot now check to {recto} see how many of your suggestions have been used. At any rate, I asked for your copy to be returned to you. It is interesting to note that the Symphony in B minor is the most frequently sought-after object of the publishing house; and so one can hope that all the necessary corrections will in fact soon be incorporated.
