Aus Russland zurückgekehrt, wo ich mich wiederum tüchtig ausdirigiert habe, würde ich Sie gerne besuchen, um Ihnen Allerhand zu erzählen.

Am besten ist es, glaube ich, wenn Sie mich morgens zwischen ½9 und 9 telefonisch aufrufen, ob und wann Ihnen mein Besuch willkommen ist. 2

Back from Russia, where I again conducted to the very best of my ability, I should like to pay you a visit in order to regale you with all manner of things.

It would be best, I think, if you were to telephone me tomorrow morning between 8:30 and 9:00 to tell me if my visit would be welcome, and if so at what time. 2

1 Receipt of this letter is not recorded in Schenker’s diary.

2 There is no record in Schenker’s diary of the latter having telephoned Bamberger until December 31 (by which time he had received Bamberger’s Christmas letter of December 24): “Bamberger teleph. für Freitag bestellt.” (“Bamberger requested, over the telephone, to come on Friday.”). That Friday was January 4, 1935, for which there is no record of a Bamberger visit (by January 13, Schenker was dead).
