OC A/287 - Handwritten letter from Carl Bamberger to Schenker, dated December 11, 1934
Back from Russia, where I again conducted to the very best of my ability, I should like to pay you a visit in order to regale you with all manner of things. It would be best, I think, if you were to telephone me tomorrow morning between 8:30 and 9:00 to tell me if my visit would be welcome, and if so at what time. 2 {2} With best wishes to you and your wife in advance for taking the trouble. © Translation Ian Bent, 2022 |

Footnotes1 Receipt of this letter is not recorded in Schenker’s diary. 2 There is no record in Schenker’s diary of the latter having telephoned Bamberger until December 31 (by which time he had received Bamberger’s Christmas letter of December 24): “Bamberger teleph. für Freitag bestellt.” (“Bamberger requested, over the telephone, to come on Friday.”). That Friday was January 4, 1935, for which there is no record of a Bamberger visit (by January 13, Schenker was dead). |
