Valley in the Pongau region of the Salzburg area of Austria, in the Tauern Alps, 40 km (25 miles) in length, and containing the ski resorts Bad Gastein, Dorfgastein, Bad Hofgastein, and Böckstein. At its northernmost end, where it meets the Salzach River, it is approximately 60 km (c. 37 miles) south of Salzburg.
