Footnotes1 Schenker’s diary for this day records: “In her conversation about Siroki, Mrs. Pairamall demonstrates the full organ-point of her heart's rawness; now the story goes that Siroki is already boring her; he strikes her as suspicious, as he showed up in an immaculate body coat and shoes – my goodness, the wealthy always find an excuse to reduce their duty to a poor person to a minimum: sometimes it is the inadequate clothing that betrays them, so that – as they say – even with a little much is served; sometimes they are betrayed by a meticulous wardrobe, so that they are not in such urgent need of help – she procured a lesson for him, which brings him 30 Kronen a month, i.e. at least a meal at lunchtime, which is a great deal!!” |
