Wenn auch das Ziel sich täglich erneuert, so wird es doch auch täglich erreicht, was aber harrt des Mannes? Nur der Trost, daß das Ziel schöner sei als das Erreichte, wie die [illeg]Großen so schön sagen! — Nach der Jause Wege, dann bei den Rosen im Schweizer Garten, zum ersten Mal! Gott sei Dank dafür!

Were it thus also granted to the man to reach the goal of his morning’s work already by midday, for the enjoyment and life enhancement of everyone! Even if that goal is renewed on a daily basis, it would nevertheless also be achieved each day; so what does one await? Only the consolation that the goal is more beautiful than what has been reached, as the greats express it so beautifully! — After teatime, errands; then at the roses in the Swiss garden, for the first time!
