1 Albori’s letter was evidently in response to one of the five postcards that Jeanette Schenker had recently sent out, inquiring about possible summer holiday accommodation (see diary entry for May 14). In the classified pages in the Neue freie Presse of May 14 (no. 24665, morning edition, p. 31), under "Countryside Residences for Rent," was an advertisement for "Schloss Reigersberg, Ilz, East Styria. Magnificent location, modern comforts, excellent cuisine, accommodation from 6 shillings."

2 According to the radio listings in the Neue freie Presse, this was a broadcast from the Great Hall of the Musikverein of a concert that formed part of the Brahms Centennial Festival. Wilhelm Furtwängler conducted the choral society of the Society of the Friends of Music; the soloists were Adelheit Armhold (soprano) and Hanns Hermann Nissen (baritone), the organist Franz Schütz.
