Pairamall (Br.): wieder in Wien, werde sich, bis sie nur in Ordnung gekommen, anmelden. — Ein Gaskommissär erscheint abends u. macht mir Schwierigkeiten wegen des Gasofens indem er sich auf den Buchstaben der Verordnung beruft, der Gasoffensperre verhängt, sobald ein Ofen im Zimmer ist u. sei er noch so unbrauchbar. Ich halte ihm vor, daß ja mein Ofen durch den Gasofen unbrauchbar gemacht worden, folglich auch im Sinne der Verordnung nicht in Betracht kommen kann. D^r. Brünauer hilft mir in eben demselben Sinne. Außerdem mache ich geltend, daß ich der Kommune durch den Gasofen erst recht an Kohle spare, da ich sonst genötigt wäre, der Bedienerin bezw. Hausbesorgerin das Einheitzen [sic] aufzutragen, eventuell also das Feuer länger brennen zu lassen, als die Stunden es erfordern. Schließlich findet der Beamte selbst einen Ausweg u. notiert, ich habe eine Sperre nicht zugegeben mit Rücksicht auf die Unbrauchbarkeit des Ofens, die er selbst zu bestätigen in der Lage ist.

I reproach him that through the gas heater my heater has been made unusable, and therefore cannot be considered, also [not] according to the regulation. Dr. Brünauer also helps me in this respect. Apart from this, I allege that through the gas heater I am, all the more, saving the municipality coal, since I would otherwise be forced to entrust the maid, or the concierge, with the heating, so that the fire would be burning longer than necessary, [and] than would be required for my lessons.
