Es ist sehr zu bedauern, daß das schwer eruirbare Element der Musik dem wenig damit vertrauten Publikum es gestattet, selbst das nur wegvortizierende musikalische „Wunderkind“ höher einzuschätzen, als die Wunderkinder z.B. auf dem Gebiete der Malerei, Schauspiel ‒ der Dichtkunst u.s.w. *{62} Statt an die Kunst des Sängers sich dagegen lieber nur an das „Gold“ in dessen Kehle (, wie man zu sagen pflegt), zu halten, ist nur Sache wieder derjenigen, die eben auch im wirklichen Leben sich statt an den Geist, mehr an das ‒ Geld halten! All real procreation is one and the same: hence, e.g., child prodigies are nothing but curiosities, and do not, as people currently believe, possess true artistic worth. It is greatly to be regretted that the hard-to-elicit element of music permits the unreliable public itself to evaluate the musical "child prodigy," who is merely a flash in the pan, more highly than child prodigies in, e.g., the fields of painting, theater ‒ and poetry, etc. *{62} To prefer to speak only of the "gold" in the singer's throat (as people are wont to do), instead of, on the contrary, adhering to the art of the singer, is only to do as those do who in real life, instead of adhering to the mind, adhere rather to ‒ money! Barnum & Bailey was in operation from 1841 to 1907, when it was bought up by the other famous circus company, Ringling Bros. The latter ran the two shows in parallel until 1919, when they combined them as "Ringling Bros and Barnum & Bailey Circus." 2 Stanisław Przybyszewski (1868‒1927), Polish novelist, dramatist, and poet.
