This letter is reproduced in full in German in Federhofer (1985), p. 77, and in full in translation in Ian Bent, David Bretherton, and William Drabkin, eds., Heinrich Schenker: Selected Correspondence (Woodbridge: The Boydell Press, 2014), p. 9. 2 Several days must have elapsed between Schenker’s visit and the writing of Sbb B II 4413 on May 18, 1903, during which Schenker had contacted Goldmark, the latter had penned a recommendation to Edition Peters, who had then inspected some of Schenker’s compositions and then sent Schenker a rejection. This calculation forms the basis of the editorial dating of the present letter, which is the latest possible date for the document. |
