Floriz, 1

You promised more: Why are you in Pörtschach and Ol. 2 in Velden? 3 Are you with Braun? Or with Mrs. Hauser? Give me a clue as to the puzzle.

I am battling on with Riemann here, since I have come to the conviction that I must pursue this meddlesome man in Counterpoint 2 if I am to make a mark for myself.

Cordial greetings from Lie-Lie to you and O... ! (We wrote to Fanny but have sadly still had no answer.) Off with these few lines!!

Footnotes

1 Writing of this postcard is not recorded in Schenker's diary.

2 "Ol.", "O": unknown lady. Schenker's diary for September 12, 1911 refers to her as "Frau O.", and letters from Heinrich and Jeanette refer to her as "Frau Oly," "Frau Olli" and "Olly" (OJ 6/5, [1], OJ 6/5, [2], August 18 and 26, 1911), diminutive, presumably, of a first name such as Olivia, with whom Violin was evidently in a relationship. He was not married at this time: he married on November 12, 1912 to Valerie ("Wally", "Vally") (maiden name unknown).

3 Pörtschach is on the Wörthersee, in Carinthia (Kärnten). Velden am Wörthersee is c.5km (c.3 miles) from Pörtschach.
