Dank für Karte! was schon besorgt. 1 Nun, wie steht’s? An Busoni schreib’ ich erst heute: das hat seine Gründe. Bis du auf deinem eigenen Ort bist, 2 schreibe ich dir mehr. In einer Stunde geh’ ich zum ersten- {2} mal zu Leiners’, deine Verlassenschaft zu pflegen. 3 Tag nach deiner Abreise hat mich Eduard consultirt; 4 er braucht nicht weniger als 1500 Gulden[.] {3} Der Bruder Mozio hat ihm einen Rath gegeben, den er auch befolgt. When you are in your own place, 2 I will write you more. In an hour I will be going for the first time {2} to the Leiners to hold the fort during your absence. 3 The day after your departure, Eduard approached me; 4 he needs nothing less than 1,500 Florins. {3} My brother Mozio has given him a piece of advice that he has gone and acted on. Footnotes1 The postcard from Violin is not known to survive. 2 Violin is apparently in Berlin. 3 “Verlassenschaft” strictly means “estate” or “inheritance,” but this is one of four letters in this folder (1897–1900) in which is discussed Schenker’s giving Violin’s piano lessons during his absence in Berlin, and the fees to be charged. The others, all in 1900, are: OJ 6/3, [13] (February 8), OJ 6/3, [19] (November 2), and OJ 6/3, [20] (December 11). On internal evidence, the present letter is the first in sequence, thus belongs before February 8. 4 This is one of four letters that refer to Eduard Violin in this folder (1897–1900), the others being OJ 6/3, [2] (April 2, 1897), OJ 6/3, [15] (April 27, 1900), and OJ 6/3, [19] (November 2, 1900). |
