Receipt of this letter is recorded in Schenker's diary at OJ 2/6, p. 607, January 19, 1917: "Von Wittwe Rudorff: Dank für die Teilnahme." ("From widow Rudorff: thanks for you condolences.").

The text of the letter of condolence that Schenker wrote is reproduced in his diary at ibid., p. 602, January 6, 1917 "Condolenzschreiben an die Wittwe Rudorff: Die Mitteilung vom Ableben Ihres hochgeehrten Gatten hat auch mich in tiefste persönliche Trauer versetzt. ("Letter of condolence to the widow Rudorff: The news of the passing of your highly revered husband has affected even me with the deepest personal sorrow. His endorsement, his noble encouragement were propitious moments for me in the battle. Above all the tumult of the day, his artistic mentality, truly dedicated only to the highest and best, which he represented in exemplary fashion, will ultimately triumph.").
