A specialist photographer, Mr. Heinrich Rose, Kaiserplatz 8, Bonn, works for the Beethoven-Haus on photographs of manuscripts, pictures, printed matter and the like. Would you care to commission this gentleman directly on your own behalf with the photographs of the manuscript of the first movement of Op. 111, ² or shall I arrange this? I am of course willing to do so, and would also give corresponding instructions to the superintendant of the Beethoven-Haus, since we do not allow the manuscript out of the building. Mr Rose has already taken similar photographs in the Beethoven-Haus for a range of publications {2} and will, I hope, give you satisfactory service. I presume that the photography, white on black, should be done at original size. It will at any rate be good if you specify your precise requirements to the photographer yourself.

Your monograph on the Ninth Symphony is still not in our library. We would owe you an especial debt of gratitude should you wish to donate a copy to the Beethoven-Haus collection. ³
